The jury and categories of 2011

Pride Photo Award is proud to present the members of the 2011 jury. The photos were taken during by Linelle Deunk at the Lloyd H0tel and Cultural Embassy on Monday the 11th of July when the jury was in session.

Jury chairman Frank Wagner (Germany) is a freelance curator who curated several exhibitions on gender and sexuality in contemporary art,  such as ‘Just Different’ in the Cobra Museum, Amsterdam, The Netherlands in 2008 and ‘Das achte Feld; Geschlechter, Leben und Begehren in der Kunst seit 1960’ in Museum Ludwig, Cologne, Germany in 2006.

Ms. Michiko Kasahara (Japan) is chief curator of the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography. She commissioned the Japanese pavilion at the 2005 Venice Biennale and worked as curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo. She curated several exhibitions on women, gender and sexuality in photography

Ms. Renata Ferri (Italy) is a journalist in charge of the photo department of Io Donna, the weekly magazine of the leading Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera. She is also an independent curator of photographic projects such as exhibits, books and multimedia

Stephen Mayes (USA) is the Managing Director of VII Photo Agency New York and secretary of World Press Photo. He has previously worked with commercial, art and fashion photographers and writes regularly on the ethics and realities of photographic practice

Sunil Gupta (India) has worked as a photographer in Canada, the UK and currently resides in India. He curated the first show in the UK about Art and AIDS in 1990, called Ecstatic Antibodies. The topics of sexuality, LGBT  people and AIDS regularly feature in his work such as in the recent series Love, Undetectable and Mr. Malhotra’s Party

Vince Aletti (USA) is photography critic for The New Yorker. He has curated several exhibitions of art and photography on the topics of ‘Male’ and ‘Female’, the most recent of which showed at White Columns in 2008. The ‘Male’ book of work from his collection appeared the following year. He was one of the curators of the International Center of Photography’s 2009 ‘Year of Fashion’

The 2011 edition of Pride Photo Award had six categories: Straight back at you (2011’s thematic categorie), Sports, Gender, Current Topics and Documentary.

Pride Photo Award is an annual international contest for photos about sexual and gender diversity.
