Pride Photo Award 2012 was a rich edition with entries ranging from documentary and portraiture to performance and conceptual photography. Photos could be entered in four categories: Documentary, Gender, Open and the 2013 theme category ‘Chameleons / Double Life’.

Out of 1,678 entries the international jury awarded the main prize to a photo from the series ‘Gender as a Performance’ by Dutch photoghrapher Chris Rijksen. The series reveals gender as a social construction; a performance rather than a biological fact. Chris Rijksen, student at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, was one of 209 participating photographers from 40 different countries.
