Record number of nationalities entering the 2016 contest

For this sixth edition of the contest we have received nearly 3.700 images from all over the world. Photographers of over 70 nationalities have sent in their best work, breaking last year’s record, and making the contest a truly international celebration of diversity, in style with the coming Europride, hosted in Amsterdam this year. The winners will be announced next week.
Margriet van der Linden, chair of the board of Pride Photo Award: “This record proves how poignant the LGBT issues are, and how important it remains for us as an organization to provide a platform. We’ve actually received twice as many entries number from countries where sexual and gender diversity is still far from being accepted, such as Russia and Eastern Europe. Photographers raise awareness for these stories with their images. I am proud that we can share those photos and with a large audience and so contribute to the debate about sexual and gender diversity. The news of the last few months, such as Orlando, proves that this debate is far from over and that Pride Photo Award still has much work to do”.
Next week the 2016 entries will be judged by a panel of international photography experts. The winners will be announced on July 14th and later celebrated at the Award Ceremony on Friday September 16th in Amsterdam’s Old Church, where work from each of this year’s winners can be seen until October 16th.

Pride Photo Award is an annual international contest for photos about sexual and gender diversity.
